My first mitts of the season

It only took an afternoon, and I was left with two cute and cozy mitts and an itch to make more. I have a hard time with the shorter, greyer days, and I can't even tell you how happy I am to have a reason to love the fall. (Besides breaking out my favorite sweater, of course. And making pumpkin soup.)

Anyway, yes. Love these. Will definitely make more.

Hi folks! Thanks for letting me join in on the knit-along. I don't have anything to show just yet, although you can check my blog or Ravelry (username kvp) to see that I have a bit of a fingerless mitts obsession. Currently I am attempting to adapt yet another sock pattern into mitts - hope I will have something to show off soon. Until then, everyone else's projects look great!

Improvised Fingerless Mitts

I'm Meg from Michigan, new to the KAL - I have really enjoyed seeing everyone's beautiful FO's and I'm finding the pattern listings quite useful. I finished a pair of mitts for my daughter for her birthday last weekend. I just improvised the pattern for her size. I'm currently working on a pair of composed mitts from the Fall IK for me, and they move along super quickly, except for the weaving in of ends! One of my next projects will be fingerless mitts for BIL for Christmas, so I'm on the lookout for manly patterns - any suggestions? ~Meg

Whitewater (Bluewater?) Wristwarmers

Whitewater Wristwarmers, made with Tilli Tomas Voile de la Mer on size 1 dpns. The pattern was very fun, though my tiny little bent and splitting bamboo dpns made things difficult! I added an extra repeat of the lace pattern in the cuff area and did ribbing at the very top instead of simple stockinette as was called for in the pattern (just like Hattie did).

I wasn't thrilled with the way the color turned out and didn't decide that until both mitts were finished...so what you see here are my mitts dyed with Berry Blue Kool Aid. Though they don't match much of my wardrobe, they sure smell nice!

October Fingerless mittens completed

I have finished my fingerless mittens and I am very pleased. A pattern of my own to match some socks that I made, these will be a gift.

October Contest!

Hi all - you didn't think I forgot about our October Contest did you??? For those just joining us, I'm running giveaways for Sept, Oct and Nov, each month of the knitalong. To be eligible you must be a member. If you haven't already joined up feel free to shoot me an email with the info in the welcome message in the sidebar and I'll get you setup.

Anyhow- for the Oct contest I wanted to do something a little different than last time. I've had a lot of people say how helpful the pattern links in the sidebar are and I'd like to really build up our list of fingerless mitt patterns, either free or for sale. Leave a comment on this post with a link to your favorite pattern. If it's already in the sidebar or someone's already posted it, that's OK too! Just let us know that it is! I'll leave the comments open for a week, contest closes next Wednesday, Oct 24th at 8:00am EST.

And the prize? Many of you were inspired by the beaded pulsewarmers that have been made and wanted to make some of your own. The prize is a complete kit to make the warmers, it comes with yarn, beads, a bead needle and 4 different patterns for you to choose from. It's a beautiful set and I think it will make someone very happy!

Hi! and New Poll - Swap?

Hi All -

This is Keri your friendly neighborhood knitalong hostess and I wanted to take a moment and say HI! to all our new members! I am just amazed at the fun and creativity this group has and all the gorgeous mitts you are churning out! I am so inspired - my todo list has grown a mile long! Everytime I see a new FO I say "oooh! I need to make that too!"

Anyhow - I've had some people approach me off list and let me know that they are having so much fun here that they would love to have a fingerless mitt swap. The idea of the swap is that you would be paired up with a partner and make a set of mitts for them and they would make a set of mitts for you and you would send them off by the end of November in a package with other fun fall-themed goodies and treats.

Right now I'm just gauging interest so I set up a cool new google poll in the sidebar under the welcome message. Please take a second and click yes, no or maybe to let me know what you think and if you would be interested. If there is enough interest I will coordinate it from my end and ask people who were interested to contact me to sign-up.

Now I want to be clear that you are in NO WAY obligated to join the swap just because you are a member of the knitalong. This would be a completely optional thing and it is totally up to you!

Manly Fetching

Pattern: Fetching

Needles: US 6 DPN

Yarn: Lavish Bulky 100% Superfine Alpaca

Duration: 2 days
(mostly knit in the car btw Houston and Austin - a lovely 3 hour cruise)

Sized up using a bulky yarn to accommodate the 10%'s larger hands.

Left off the picot edge and used a straight bind off.

Did a stash review to figure out what's next. Mohair/Wool/Cashmere Worsted Weight or Sport Weight Alpaca. Hmmm... What a nice problem to have.

What's Your Favorite BO?

Hello folks, I thought I would ask this group what they are finding works best for binding off fingerless mitts and fingerless gloves - (at least for the patterns that are knit from the wrist- up)? Do you follow the pattern you are using at the time? Do you have another BO that you prefer? I would be interested in hearing what people use for their BO....
I have been making fingerless gloves (well, tipless gloves) and I 'm finding I like a BO in purl better than the regular knit BO. I think it looks better and it doesn't have a tendency to roll. I have also tried the Elizabeth Zimmerman Sewn BO because I read in her Opinionated Knitter book that it is suppose to roll less than a regular BO. I still like the Purl BO -- I find it easier than the EZ Sewn BO.
I made Fetching last year (before this KAL) and thought the Picot BO flared out too much so I redid the BO in the pattern (K4P1) but I'm finding that particular BO is rolling which I don't really like either ... Has anyone found a different BO for Fetching that they ended up really being satisfied with?

Simple and quick

This is a pair of fingerless gloves made for my middle son, at his request. He wanted a very simple pattern, so I chose "Voodoo" from Knitty. He seems to really like them and they fit just right. Success!

A little hint on making these - the pattern calls for a 6 stitch butto hole. I made a 7 sts buttonhole and it was barely large enough for his 13 yo, very slim thumb.

Intro and Some Fetching

Hi All... Just joined your group and wanted to say hello, and then jump right in... I am a planning to make fingerless mitts in a multitude of styles for Holiday presents this year. My list so far includes Delicato, Fetching, Orchid Lace. Mosaic Mitts and Endpaper Mitts if I have time, and I am open to ANY suggestions...



These Fetchings are being made out of Blue Sky Alpaca & Silk in Plum and Kiwi. Remains to be seen if the 2 colour effect will work - the float makes a non-stretchy ribbing, which may be a no-go



I made the pair of these last night. They are a little bulkier than what the pattern calls for, but I had some left over Rowan Cashsoft Aran in the Savannah colour, and there was just enough for a pair of Fetchings. So, one pair down, many more to go before Christmas, but I am feeling uplifted by the ease of this first attempt... if all else fails, Fetching will rule!

I have not quite bored of this pattern yet but I did find something to use up the left over yarn to make a matching headband, so that is why it took me so long to post this set. This set is for my sister in law, last year her husband knit her a great scarf that I think these will match. Next fingerless is going to be dashing in black for my husband but he wants the first two sets of knuckles to be covered so off I go to research how to do that....

ok, this is getting a wee bit boring, at least for me, but here is my second pair of fetchings, this time in black Debbie Bliss cashmerino aran. another holiday present (the first was for my mother-in-law, this one for my sister-in-law), and i think i'm done with this pattern for now, at least. i was going to make myself a pair but i'm moving on!

I finally got a camera to borrow

Hello Everyone,

Have finally managed to borrow a camera! although my photography skills are not that good.
Both sets of fingerless mitts were made using yarn I bought at a bazaar for $2.00. The lighter yellow ones would be good for spring - I absolutely love the pattern. The green (although they look blueish) I adapted to be shorter - not so sure if I like them this way. The yarn is some sort of super soft wool (no labels).

Currently working on two other of my own designs. Fun stuff.

A New Set

Another pair of the Lace-Up Fingerless Gloves from Alterknits have been finished for my friends birthday. They are a little big on my hands but should fit hers pretty well.

I love this pattern. I have seen a lot of other fingerless gloves that I like and want to try that are 'fancier', but in the meantime, I really do like this pattern. It's a quick knit, these are nice, functional, warm gloves and I think that ribbon just adds something to make them really stand out. For more on the specs, see my blog. (The ice cream was for my roommate who was having a bad day by the way). This week I started another set in purple for another friends birthday!

Finished mitts - new free pattern

I've finished another pair of mitts with cable and beads! And I've also written the pattern, so now there is a new pattern to enjoy.

These mitts are made from alpaca and are quite dense and warm. But I think that is just what my friend ordered!
