Quite Dashing if I do say so...

A pair of Dashings for my friend Sarah who complains about cold hands. I needed more than one color for entertainment and to get rid of leftovers from old scarves.

You all know it's Knitty's Dashing by Cheryl Niamath, but the yarn is Red Heart SuperSaver in Real Teal and some cranberry-ish color.

Fingerless Mitts - boys

Fingerless Mitts - boys, originally uploaded by butterflyjones03.

These are a pair of fingerless mitts I made for a young boy - I altered a pattern I found on the net: http://www.knitlist.com/01gift/wristers.htm

I used size 4 needles - less than a skein of Lionbrand Woolease I had on hand and I added a thumb.

Thumb: - I placed the 13 stitches that were supposed to be bound off on a holder (yarn) and then when I came back to it at the end
I put them back on the needle
Picked up enough stitches so I had 20 stitches
Knit plain for 2 rows
decrease 4 stitches (16 sts)
Knit plain for one row
K2,P2 for 4 rows and BO in ribbing
They fit my 11 yr old son - so I would say 6-10 or so yrs old
Hard to find patterns for them
Enjoy

Just plain tired of Fetching.

I finished my girlfriends, purple fetching on sunday. I of course could not go with out something on the needles so until my brother gets his measurements to me for his christmas presents... I cast on Irish Hiking Wrist Warmers. I hate seaming so I started them in the round, and being a total dumb @ss I ended up knitting them inside out but that was after I cast on three times. So I tried to turn them and decided that kniting inside out is better than backwards. I will bind off my first one tonight, and add the thumb tomorrow?

Second Pair Done

I finished these mitts on Sunday and forgot to post about them. I knit these for my daughter, they will be a stocking stuffer for her. I knit them in Knit Picks Simple Stripes - Sweet Tart colorway using this pattern.

New Free Pattern!

I was just cruising the bloglines this evening and saw this new, cute, free fingerless mitt pattern.

Check it out! =)

Please Tell me the Article is Wrong

Hi folks, Has anyone else read the Clara Parkes article titled " Discovering Alpaca" in the latest (Winter '07) Interweave Knits Magazine?

In the article (pg. 14) she mentions: " ... any kind of ribbing in pure alpaca will be decorative only- the yarn won't reliably keep your fabric snug."

I just finished knitting three pairs of fingerless gloves in alpaca using 1X1 ribbing for the cuff. Did I just waste my time? Has anyone else knit gloves or mitts with 100 % alpaca with some ribbing and worn them? Has the ribbing stretched out over time? Gee whiz, I hope Ms. Parkes is wrong about ribbing with alpaca.

Coming out of the closet

I keep reading and not posting so I thought it was time to change that. There are so many beautiful mitts on this blog. I doubt I'll have time to knit all the pairs on my list!

I've been busy knitting mitts for everyone in my house. Here are some of the pics. For more info, you can read about them here and here.

Baby Alpaca Grand Paint color 8818, fingerless mitts
I've knit 3 1/2 pairs of this mitt because the yarn is so soft and lovely to work with and knit on size 7 US needles, they can be completed during a dvd (just keep the coffee coming!)

Lobster Claws

I've finished! Here they are:

(It's pretty hard to take your own pictures of fingerless mitts in action!)

I appreciated the tips I got about picking up stitches for the fingers so I wouldn't have holes to stitch over, but I ended up not taking the fingers down to re-work--I'll use the tips on my next set of fingerless (or semi-fingerless, as these seem to be) mitts. I have more details here on my blog.

And thanks for the KAL which was my incentive to finish these mitts. They're sweet, feminine and really warm!

Sick Day...

Hi All - This is your friendly neighborhood hostess here and I wanted to give you a quick heads up that unfortunately I have come down with a rather bad case of the flu. I've been fighting it all weekend and had to take a sick day off work. I hope to be better soon but I wanted to let you know that if you've emailed me requesting an invite it will be delayed. I will get to you in a day or two, as soon as I feel better.

Also, those of you who are swapping I'm so sorry for the delay in sending out your partners. As soon as I am well enough to sit at the computer for longer than 5 minutes I will make sure to send them out. Definitely in the next day or two.

Thanks all and happy fingerless mitt knitting!
=) Keri

Snow on Cedars

Anne Hanson of Knitspot (designer of the popular Delicato mitts) has a new pattern called Snow on Cedars. I used a new-t0-me sock yarn from Araucania Yarns. More cedar than snow in the colorway, but lovely shades for late autumn.
Anne's attention to detail in writing her patterns never ceases to amaze me. In this case it's a very precise way of shifting stitches from needle to needle as the lace pattern shifts so that the pattern on each needle is consistent. Makes for fast lace knitting.

More Knucks

After my last pair of Knucks, my cousin and aunt (who had apparently been lurking around my blog) left me a comment strongly suggesting that these would make nice Christmas presents (presumably for them), but definitely in blue. None of this pumpkin color. So I am obliging. This pair is in Rowan Felted Tweed in Midnight and has the 1x1 ribbed cuff. Now that I'm looking at the pictures, the bound off edge looks a little wonky...must fix. This is my fifth pair of Knucks, and I still love making 'em!

I agree with Katie. One of the great things about this KAL is that it has provided very good incentive to finish Christmas presents early. Thanks, Keri!

impulse mitts

I didn't mean to cast on for these, but somehow they were on the needles Thursday evening. I finished them Friday night, wove in the ends on Saturday morning and wore them all weekend. They are made of one skein of Artyarns Supermerino, and the pattern is really more of a set of guidelines from Knit and Tonic, found here.

More details on my blog here and here.

Roses and Ruffles Fingerless Mitts

Roses and Ruffles Fingerless Mitts">" border="0" alt="" />

This design is something I came up with to use up some leftover yarn from a baby sweater I knit recently. It combines knitting (the basic mitt) and crochet (the edging at the top and the flower embellishments). I like them a lot, and I am testing out the design in another yarn. I am writing up the pattern, and will provide details when it's done, if anyone would like it.

Two FOs!

I love the idea of this KAL for many reasons, the biggest being that it's helped me not procrastinate on Christmas presents! Here I have the Wavy Fingerless Mitts from One Skein Wonders as well as another Fetching. I had a lot of fun knitting both. The wavy mitts are incredibly simple, and I actually knit them here-and-there while nursing my son. As many of you know, Fetching was a treat to knit, and I always enjoy using any of the cashmerinos. Happy mitt knitting!

Striped Wrist Warmer

I had seen this design at a couple of wool festivals, as a ready-made item. I have recreated it for myself using "Brown Sheep Naturespun". This is my second pair of mitts, so far. I have already cast on for pair #3 with plans for several more. I wore these to work this week to see if anyone else liked the idea as much as I do, and I think they will be the "santa gift" for co-workers this year.

3 Pairs of Mitts

I set out to try a pair of mitts...and I've completed 3!! I will be posting my pattern on my blog soon and will include many more pics.

Kyla Mitts

My only regret is that I didn't use totally solid yarn for these beautiful mittens - my splotchy red yarn makes it more difficult so see the pretty pattern. They are wonderfully soft and fit me perfectly. For all the details.... check here.

And the winner is...

Congrats on winning the mitt kit, I hope you enjoy it! Thank you all for submitting links, there sure a lot of great patterns out there! Please send a big thanks to Bernadette as well, she has stepped up to help me out and has been working on updating the list with all your new links. I greatly appreciate her help! =)

In other news, I'm leaving the mitt swap open until tomorrow night (friday) and then I'll send out partners this weekend. There are still 4 spots open if you'd like to join us, we'd love to have you!

Have a great night,
Keri

Mitts Pattern Links

Hi Everyone! At Keri's request, I updated the link list to be sure it includes all the great patterns everyone mentioned in their comments on the October Contest post...

I think I got them all... If you see that a pattern is missing from the list in the sidebar, please comment here on this post, and I will get it up on the list ASAP! THANKS again to everyone who posted pattern links!! BIG THANKS to our hostess, Keri, for hosting such a great KAL!

Montera Mitts

I finished these mitts a week ago - I kept forgetting to post them! These were done on the fly - no pattern. They are simple, and I like the ribbing at the top because it keeps the mitts snug on your fingers. They look a bit long, but that's because they are a gift for someone with longer fingers (and prettier hands!) than mine.
Yarn: Classic Elite Montera "Majolica Blue".
